National Tree Week 2026
- Growing a Greener Future Together
This year's National Tree Week theme was "Growing a Greener Future Together" – and Dundalk Tidy Towns embraced it fully, from historical care to fruit tree planting.
From weeding around century-old trees at Longwalk to planting apple or pear trees in family estates, 2026 was a year of community growing. Residents in Pearse Park, Fairy Garden, Fatimah Estate, and Marian Park can now watch their fruit trees blossom and bear fruit – a delicious reminder that a greener future is one we grow together.
16th March 2026 – Back to Longwalk
We returned to Longwalk to revisit our cherished historical trees. Our volunteers spent time:
-
Weeding around the historical trees to keep them healthy
-
Planting some new flowers to add colour and biodiversity to the area

1st April 2026 – Pocket forest in Navvy bank
We are back at Navvy Bank again this year, but with a different approach to planting new trees. Dundalk Tidy Towns tried a different approach at Navvy Bank by planting a pocket forest – a dense, mini-woodland that grows faster and supports more wildlife than traditional tree planting. Thanks to all who helped prepare the area and get these new trees into the ground!
April 2026 – Fruit Trees in Residential Estates
This year, we did something truly special. Instead of only planting native woodland trees, we planted fruit trees right in the heart of Dundalk's residential estates.
Eight total fruit trees were planted, two each to the following estate: Pearse Park, Fairy Garden, Fatimah Estate, and Marian Park
