About Dundalk Tidy Towns – Our 5-Year Plan (2023–2028)

Welcome to Dundalk Tidy Towns.

We are a community-driven group committed to creating a cleaner, greener, and more beautiful Dundalk for everyone who lives, works, and visits here.

Our 5-Year Plan (2023–2028) serves as a guiding roadmap for all our work – from daily litter picks to long-term biodiversity projects. It was developed with extensive input from our volunteers and shaped by feedback from the annual Tidy Towns adjudication process.

What's Inside Our Plan?

Our plan is organised into key categories that reflect the full range of our work:

  1. Community, Planning & Involvement: Working together with residents, schools, businesses, and local groups

  2. Our Green Spaces & Landscaping: Creating pollinator-friendly planting and sustainable green areas

  3. Our Streetscapes & Public Spaces: Caring for street furniture, signage, derelict buildings, and public art

  4. Nature & Biodiversity: Protecting pollinators, planting trees, commissioning surveys, and creating wildlife habitats

  5. Sustainability – Doing More with Less: Holding clothes swaps, repair workshops, and promoting reusable water bottles

  6. Tidiness & Litter Control: Organising litter picks, tackling illegal dumping, and running campaigns like 'Bin Your Butt'

  7. Residential Streets & Housing Areas: Supporting resident associations and promoting Louth in Bloom

  8. Navvy Bank Walk: Enhancing this 2-mile scenic amenity with biodiversity studies, new signage, and audio trails

  9. Approach Roads, Streets & Lanes: Improving cycle lanes, promoting 'No Mow May', and installing drain sieves

Our Emblems: The Coulter Poppy & Socks the Fox

Our logo features the Coulter Poppy – a beautiful, delicate flower discovered by Dundalk botanist Dr. Thomas Coulter in 1832. Also known as the 'fried egg poppy', it symbolises what can be achieved, developed, and nurtured over time. More info on our logo visit here.

We are also proud of Socks the Fox, who has brought Tidy Towns awareness to local schools through events, newsletters, and biodiversity packs. Socks will continue to support our younger community members over the next five years. More info on our mascot visit here.

Our Mission Statement

Dundalk Tidy Towns is committed to creating a cleaner and greener environment for the people of Dundalk. We will work together with all members of our community in order to make Dundalk a great place in which to live, work and enjoy.

A Living Plan

This is a working document. Each year, we review and update it:

  • Completed projects are removed

  • Unfinished work is carried forward

  • New projects are added based on adjudicator feedback and community surveys
